Missing the funeral for my husband's grandfather

My husband is understandably upset with me for not being able to go with him to his grandfather's funeral. I tried to take Friday and Saturday off so that I could be there for him (and be in charge of the kids). Instead I have to work Friday and I feel terrible. Is there anything I can do to make it up to him? He'll be driving 2.5 hours with the kids (almost 4 and almost 1), going to the funeral, and then the celebration of life, and then staying the night at a hotel so that he can be with his parents the next day. I hate that he has to do all of that alone
