Heteroromantic aces are valid!! Any time I see someone being harmful to heteroromantic aces or asexuals in general I just remind them of how lesbians get trashed on for not being sexually attracted to men, gay men get trashed on for not being sexually attracted to women, bisexuals get trashed on by telling them 'they can't make up their minds', 'they're just gays who haven't come out of the closet' or 'they're straight people looking for attention'. Asexuals get harassed by both sides for not feeling little to no sexual attraction to anyone . Heteroromantic and aromantic aces especially because they're 'not gay' and it needs to stop. Heteroromantic and aromantic aces get bullied, harassed, and assaulted from both sides of the spectrum just as much as the rest of the asexual community does. This is exactly the experience I've had, although I'm in America so the culture is probably a little different. I'm 19 and the few "crushes" I've had in the past were just me pretending to like the same person everyone else did. I get that, a lot. Why I'm fearful is I've even been told by other ACE's that some members of the LGBTQ dislike us so I'm now even fearful of people I thought were allies. Which breaks my heart as I've had so many come out to me as they knew I was different too so I'd get it. Which is why I've explained this and said this alone is fine but I am never to be used as an example. Even if it's in good intentions of helping someone who is bi, trans etc...To feel better talking to them at work. Not without my permission. I said "at no point do I wish to hear that you has been saying "oh, it's OK my son is ARO ACE" for that will upset me". I can relate to a lot of your experiences but at the same time my views differ from yours. My sexuality is not my personality - people who treat it like that often tend to be shallow. But it's still a part of my personality. I don't know if I would go to a pride parade since what you said about the LGTBQ+ community is true but there also are a lot of genuine and inclusive people. I don’t know, the lesbian flag, for example, is so often forgotten and it can be disheartening and upsetting when the L is literally the first letter in the acronym yet people can’t bother to include it. I’m not saying that every graphic needs to have every single flag, but I do think people have a right to be upset about their flag not being included. We disagree, that’s ok.
