So last night, I (male) talked on the phone for around 2 hours with someone who I met online. The convo was good, she is chatty but I listened and the convo went great! Not sure what happened but I didn't hear from her all day. I'm sure she's not into me anyone but it sucks because we had plans to meet up next week. So I’m personally off the apps, but my friends are and we were discussing what kind of men we would want, and how to attract them. It dawned on me that to get the man I want to attract, I basically have to show him by my profile! So I like men who work out and lift heavy, so a photo of me in an athletic situation and then a photo that shows off that I lift will be ideal! there are some people who identify on the ace/aro spectrums because of trauma, much like there are people who might identify as lesbian because of trauma even though they experienced attraction to men before. It's extremely rare for trauma victims to lose sexual or romantic attraction (in fact, statistically, they are more likely to become hypersexual) but they are absolutely still valid aspecs and we 100% support them. However, a couple pervasive ace stereotypes are that "asexuality isn't real, it's actually just trauma" or "it's actually just a medical condition" and those are extremely harmful to the community as a whole. The overwhelming majority of us are born this way and the idea that we can be "fixed" with therapy or medication is frankly as harmful as saying gay people can be "fixed" with therapy or medication. I specifically stated that the religion has no concept of it. I feel like you're not understanding what that means. Nothing about marital r@pe is discussed and you can't point to a single verse to talk about it without putting your own interpretation on it. Also, people interpret "respect" differently. There are fundamentalist wackos who specifically say that it is disrespectful for a woman to deny sex to her husband for any reason and use Bible verses to back up that claim. They use their own interpretation to say that the Bible refutes the existence of marital r*pe because a woman ALWAYS owes her husband sex. I’ve been dating this guy for nearly two months now. With the way he talks, the frequency of communication, and the things he says, I thought we were both on the same page and only seeing each other. He had in fact told me in passing that he was only seeing me. Still, my intuition was telling me something was wrong. I eventually just asked if he was still seeing anyone else for peace of mind and he gave me this sheepish look and admitted he was. He had expressed that he wanted to take things slow after having been burned pretty bad in a previous relationship, but I didn’t realize taking things slow meant actively seeing other people. I told him that I wasn’t comfortable with that and concerned that he tried to hide it from me until I asked.
