I first heard of asexuality as an orientation in the early 2000s, when I would have been in my early to mid 40s. Now, I knew since about age 12 that I was different than the people around me, so in that sense I’ve known for over 50 years. But I didn’t know there was anyone else like me anywhere in the world. Then asexuality gained visibility, and I knew immediately without any doubt or hesitation that this orientation described me and that I wasn’t the only one and I wasn’t broken !!! So in in the sense of being able to give my orientation a name , it’s been around 18 years. And that, folks, is why we need ace visibility. January 10, 2021 at 11:49PM
