If you really want to be depressed go to /r/deadbedrooms . People there are willing to dump their SO and kids for sex, even other allos who just might have a lower sex drive at the time. So it isn't even about being asexual, some people are just absolute coomers. If they're just upfront about it - that they'd leave their family for sex - then there'd be no issue as they could find people with similar views in which sex is the most important thing in their life, but to me the default isn't to abandon your kids because you can't get your dick wet. Let me start by saying that I understand the feeling the definition describes on a personal level. I am disconnected from my sexual arousal. I don't self insert. The reason I believe this is one face of comp het is from the experience of lesbians describe something similar when faced with the pressure to be het. While still discovering their sexuality or perhaps trying to deny it, lesbians will express sexual attraction to men that are usually unattainable (celebrities or fictional characters) but experience that same disconnect - they don't self insert. I should also probably mention that I am not downplaying or trying to invalidate aego.
