Dating Superstitions

If you've been dating long enough, it seems like certain behaviors seem to perpetually lead to bad luck. For me, I've found once I buy a gift for someone, doesn't matter how long it's been, it's over and I'll never get a chance to give it to them. It's never been anything big or expensive, but now I'm super sketch about buying something for someone I'm dating.

For example, years ago I was dating a 30 something grad student and after about a month of dating and having sex for the first time, I bought him a silly gift referencing his major. He kinda freaked about having sex "so soon" and I never heard from him again and was never able to give him his gift. Recently I was dating a sailboat enthusiast. We dated for about a month, were taking things slow so hadn't had sex yet, but had slept over. He liked that we weren't rushing. Then right after I bought him a sailboat coffee mug, I found out his sister dealt heroin out of his house. Bye boy! And most recently, I dated a guy for 2 1/2 months. We went on a trip for my bday and talked about what we'd do for his bday a month later. I bought him a book about the psychology of day trading, a passion of his he was hoping to start doing at some point. Once again before I could give it to him, he ghosted. At this point I feel like I can never buy a gift for a date ever again! It's like a guarantee it won't work out.
