Marriage advice for an age gap marriage.

Hey married folks! So I’m 29 even though I look 21 and my husband to be is 42. We’ve been together for 2 years and the wedding is in 1 year. He’s been divorced twice and I’ve never been married but he’s been the kindest most understanding and patient man I’ve ever met. I fell in love with his kindness and personality. He like me was a vulnerable sensitive soul looking for someone to love and for someone to return that.

We met when he was separated from his ex wife and waiting 7 months before proceeding to date because he was so fresh from the divorce. She was very abusive to him and used him for his money. We healed each other’s past traumas with honey and true love and acceptance.

We are on the same page about a lot of things traveling, wanting kids (he doesn’t have any yet and neither do I but we might in like 3 years) pets. We are both easy going people who can both admit when we are wrong despite me being a bit vain and somewhat of a perfectionist. We are very attracted to each other and the sex is the best I’ve ever experienced: he’s a real giver.

At first my family was upset with me for dating an older man. My mother said that I’m accomplished in my career and I have a degree, I’m young thin and according to my mother very beautiful and she said this is not what they had in mind for me. I have no shortage of guys my age who bother me, but to me they are so shallow only looking at what women can offer them sexually and moving on to flirt with the next skirt they see. The guys I’ve dated that were my age don’t want the same things.

My sisters don’t like him much either which makes me sad. I’ve always respected their opinion. My mother and father have come around. I think my fiancé has finally won them over by being very respectful and loving me and being selfless for 2 years. He told My mother he hopes she will be his family too and gave her a hug. He’s a sweetheart and my mom is finally happy for me.

I know I shouldn’t care what people think so much, but sometimes it gets to me. People have accused me of gold digging by being “funny” which I didn’t find funny. He only Makes about 200k and I make my own money and buy my own things for the most part even though he makes a good bit more.

My male coworkers tease me about dating and “old man” and ask me if he still owns stock in blockbuster and if he has a Walkman and shit. People ask if he’s my dad. It bothers me honestly. It bothers me a little when I’m around people my age and he stands out. I know we are grown adults but I think a lot people in their late 20s and early 30s don’t know how to respond maturely.

When it’s just us I feel so happy and content and safe. Sometimes I do wish he were closer to my age so people would stop the nonsense, but I love him for who he is. Anyone in a relationship with an age gap. I feel that others make such a big deal out of something that’s not an issue!
