Dating apps or the new dating normal?

I am newly dating again, and really just happy to just be chatting and socializing again after a lifeless marriage. Even if it's only on line or limited, I enjoy the interaction and also don't mind when conversations just naturally fizzle. Ultimately, I feel pretty laid back about how this online thing generally unfolds.

Two questions, however - as "online dating" IS new to me. 1 - Is it common for people just chat/text indefinitely and never meet? What is the point? Do I just shut it down? How do I say (without sounding awkward), "Texting you is getting boring, and I'm losing interest"? 2 - When people DO attempt to meet, is it common for a "what are you doing tonight?" or "what are you doing right now?" I am not a socialite with a booked calendar, but I do require more than an hour notice. Is that a clue that people are only interested in a hook up? This is very different than when I left the dating world, and while I'm in no rush to find anybody, I feel like I walked into a different planet all together.
