Allow me to tell you a story..

Once upon a time, there was a boy who went to his best friends party. This party was alright but over time, he just wanted to chill so he went to his friends room to play some video games. Not long after there was a knock on the door and a girl asked if he'd like some company and he obliged and over the course of the rest of the night, they spent the rest of their time talking and playing God of war and mortal kombat. They decided they enjoyed the interaction and wanted to do it again. So they make plans that consist of soccer, the beach, feeding goats and hanging out with their mutual friend. Over the course of the summer, a relationship was formed that was unlike any other the boy had ever had and he had fallen for her but the problem was that soon she had to leave so he decided to not have any regrets. So he decides to spend as much time with her as possible which include a road trip to her family in Jasper and conspiring a kabrewing event with him, someone who knew how to kayak, the girl and the best friend that he set up with his other best friend who had never kayaked before in their life's. His friends flip at least 5 times and hit every log possible. It was a grand adventure. Summer comes to an end and it's time to depart ways, she drives over to say goodbye, but as they say goodbye, she hands him a note and a mixed cd. She leaves, he reads it and finds out the feelings were mutual and that together, they had the best summer of their lives. He's furious with himself. Within the next 5 minutes, he's meeting her at the mall to say the goodbye he wouldn't regret and he kisses her. They say goodbye and he's still not satisfied and so he texts her again, "hey sorry. That was a bit awkward. Care for another?" "Yes!" So they meet up and make sure it was one to remember.

He rebounds with a toxic trash pile of a human being and when they break up, he makes a trip down to where the girl and another of his friends are. He sets up at his friends place but within an hour or so, he's on his way to the girls place and they spend a solid 6 hours just talking and catching up. In the morning, he heads back to his friends. Later that night, he and his friend are just watching tv and he gets hit with a panic attack. Not sure what to do, within an hour again, he's back on his way over to the girls place. They spend another 2 hours talking and then they go on a very long walk at night around the entire USF campus. He talks to her about his depression and so she opens up to him about hers and they connect on an entirely new level. They get back to her place and they just hold each other tight until she has to leave in the morning. So he decides to hide little uplifting notes all around her room in the event that he isn't there to be there for her like she was for him. She comes back home with another note for him. Again, a tad awkward as they depart ways.

A year later, they meet up again and he invited her to a different friends party. So they get there, everyone is having a good time and she mingles well but it's that time of the party where the boy sneaks off to get some alone time. He heads to his friends room again and starts watching some anime. Again, maybe 5 minutes later the girl is knocking on the door asking if he'd like some company. Of course, he says yes and they just sit closely with her head on his shoulder. A few others come in and watch they take their exit and go for a little walk and just enjoy the moment. A few days later they keep up their tradition of feeding the goats except this time with the added twist of going to the water to talk. They talk about what they're doing I  life and she brings up that she says she's about to move in with a boy, to a place she doesn't know, for a job she doesn't enjoy. He tells her that's a terrible idea and that she'll regret it. They head back, he drops her off at her dad's. They go get breakfast in the morning and he drops her off at her dad's again except this time with an Ambien infused note that told her how he was in love with her. Another super awkward goodbye and he heads home in tear

A few months go by, they're staying in touch and she tells him that she's thinking about suicide. The very next day, he's six hours to pick her up and help her feel better just for the weekend. He gets there, she puts in a CD and they're off to Tampa. Again talking and smiling the entire time. They get there, it's time for bed and again they just hold each other all night. In the morning they go get some breakfast and for a walk at a park and when they get back his other friend is up. They go to campus in search of some soccer. Find 3 people just kicking the ball around and they just play a little friendly 3v3. His friend can't kick a ball and she gets sick probably from the alcohol last night but it was a good time. They head back with lunch and she falls asleep on his shoulder while watching tv. Then it's time to take her back. On the way back they have a little disagreement, and he tells her that this life she has right now isn't good for her. The environment and the people around her may not be bad people but are unhealthy for her. That he still loves her and that he'd love to marry her. The rest of the trip goes by in silence and they say goodbye and she forgets her cd.

They didn't leave on the best of terms that night and didn't speak for a while until one day she texts him and says yes. He's confused, asks her to elaborate. She says that he asked her a question that she never answered and her answer is yes, that she'd marry him. Well, this obviously wasn't good timing for either of them and was more of a confirmation of being right about her situation and him and that she saw that now. They start talking again, become close and were even more open with each other than they were before. She mentioned some more intimate details that she wish she wish she would have taken advantage of when they were together and a month or two later messaged him out of the blue asking him if he ever saw a movie and then how he reminded her of the love interest in this very popular movie. Time moves on, obviously, and neither is in a place to give it a shot.

Then she decides to visit him for a little bit and gets a hotel. He takes her to his friends party again, they drink some and then they go to another friends party and drink some more but not a lot. They head back to the hotel and it gets a bit steamy but nothing happens. The feelings are still there for one another and in the morning, he checks out with her, gives her the CD she left with him years ago and they go their different ways. Again, in tears.

And again, he's devastated and rebounds with another girl. They have a solid relationship with lots of good times and okay adventures but he didn't love her. They break up and he tells the girl. Within 4 weeks they already have plans to see each other again. They talk almost daily until they see each other. This time though, the boy has a plan. He's going to enjoy his time with her but he's going to keep his distance. They start to hang out, the chemistry is there. He actively avoids it. They start drinking and they're having a good time, he refuses to make eye contact but notices that she's still looking at him. They get back to the place they're staying and he makes a decision to sit away from her but within 45 minutes, fails miserably. Her head is already on his shoulder and asking to take a nap. He's done and at that point, there's no going back and he's reminded of how much he cares for her and is pretty sure the feelings were still mutual. He holds her and she holds him back, smiling and rubbing his shoulder. When they get up, alcohol is consumed and they go get dinner and then when they get back more alcohol and more games until there's an obvious winner and loser. They talk about their future and their plans and then it's off to bed and he makes sure he's holding her all night. She drops him off in the morning and he's frustrated he did what he told himself he wouldn't. The day goes on, they meet back up. Games continue, drinking ensues and things slow down. They start talking about how things could have been different and how things could be if they were together. They begin to cuddle and the boy realizes its another one of those moments where if he doesn't kiss her, he'd forever regret it. So he asks if he can and again, she says yes. Again, the passion, the chemistry, and the feelings are there. Except the timing and circumstances are still wrong. They spend some time just laying there holding each other and talking about what it would be like if they were together and she teases moving closer once she graduates with a wink. After a while they go to bed, just as tightly wound as before. The next morning they go get coffee and head back to his place to just get a little more time together and holding each other tight. As she's leaving its awkward again as they say goodbye. Again, he's in tears.

Obviously, this is my story with this girl and that awkward feeling, ive come to believe is because deep down we know that we shouldn't be leaving each other. What's left out of the story is that every time one of us got out of a relationship, the other was in one as well as going to school. The question comes now; In june shes coming to stay with me for a week. I'm going to make it a week of what our relationship could have been like minus anything that might cross some lines due to the relationship. After that, I want to write her a letter of how i feel about her. See shes graduating with her masters in a few months and in around December I'll be working my way into the military. Hell, I'll forget the military if she says she's not interested in it.. We're both at a point where if we tried, the timing could line up. Except I'm dumbfounded on what i want to tell her or what I should tell her or if i should tell her anything at all and just let life happen. So r/love, if you were in my situation, what would you do/say to ensure you had no regrets when pushing into this next grand adventure of life?

Also, sorry for the long post - this has been going on for a little less than a decade and we're not even 30.
