Doubts about dating/courtship and how it helps for marriage

I just wanted to ask this question because it's been on my mind. For me I have begun to enter the dating game you could say I'm getting close to my twenties I have not had any relationship and or girlfriend/boyfriend up to this point. However my question is how is dating supposed to help to get to know someone before marriage if it only shows the bright side of things. For example Billy Bob and Jessica like each other they go out have fun get a cup of coffee, go to a restaurant, etc . That doesn't show what it would be like in marriage where there is committment and it is not just the "good" times. At the same time though if Billy Bob and Jessica do nothing they will not get to know each other . Are there certain questions that help for dating seriously and should you have a dating relationship (boyfriend and girlfriend before marriage) to help get to know each other . Are there certain people who just to date seriously for marriage not necessarily for fun ? Is there fun/affection that must be necessary between you to along wit dating seriously ? Lastly disclaimer as you can tell I have never been on a date before and I'm a bit worried for the future with regards to marriage specifically finding that right person , difference between real love and lust, marriage reality vs expectations versus what it really is compared to Hollywood and pop artists ?

Another thing is I mention Courtship a system in which if 2 people want to get to know each other it is in a chaperoned environment. Specifically the girl and the guy meet in a public place with there family to ensure that the dialogue being conducted and the questions asked aren't based off of affection but rather rational questions for compatibility. I mention Courtship because I come from a very conservative environment with regards to my family religiously but because it has been shown to examine relationships for the long run . Also because when the time comes I do have choice one or the other or both but I wanted to know if there are advantages/disadvantages to each

My question with regards to courtship is that can it be effective or should you go through dating as well to know the person before a long term relationship like marriage or both dating and courtship?

Thanks again I do apologise for the extremely long post I'm really concerned for the future with regards to marriage and relationships. I have seen successful and unsuccessful relationships in my family along with my relatives .
