3rd date nosedive

Hello reddit,

This is my first post so not really sure if I’m doing this right.

I (26M) went on 2 really good dates with a girl. We had pretty good physical chemistry and I feel like we connected intellectually and emotionally. Lots of making out, laughing, etc. Unfortunately on the week before our 3rd date I was pretty stressed out and didn’t sleep very well due to some personal and work issues. When it came to the date I was having trouble engaging in conversation and I was overall just very not my usual self. We still made it through the whole date but even in my weird state I could feel something was off. We went back to my apartment and listened to music and made out before she went home. When I texted her the next day she rightfully said she thought a lot about it but was thinking it might be better if we were friends. My question is whether it’s worth trying to explain that I wasn’t in the best headspace during our date and want to go for a retry since we did have really good 1st and 2nd dates. I’m definitely going to give it at least a week because I don’t want to come on too strong. I’m also seeing other girls but I might just have some heavy FOMO. I appreciate any thoughts!
