Back on the dating horse after six years, would appreciate some real advice

So my six-year relationship with my girlfriend has ended, and I am pushing 40 about to go into back into the dating scene. I'm generally in a much better place now than the last time I was single, decent job now and far more secure (though by no means rich), just generally have my stuff a little more together.

Working full time also means less time to meet people in person, so I've signed up for Tinder a few days ago. I should note that I'm not looking for random hookups, and do generally want to meet someone new. I haven't been too impressed with the likes I've been receiving on there so far, I have to say. It's also numbing to page through hundreds and hundreds of girls that will likely never respond. The thought of meeting someone new is exciting, but the search is a bit daunting.

So, any real advice for starting dating again so close to middle age? I do live in a populous area. One other complication right now I feel I should note is, I'm still sharing an apartment with my ex for the moment.
