This guy (24M) in my (23F) class is giving me mixed signals?

So in the middle of the semester, I started developing an innocent crush on this guy in my class. He seemed like an interesting person, so I figured I’d initiate the conversation with him. I started sending him somewhat flirtatious emails to ask “questions” even though I had a friend in the class. Don’t know if he realizes that.... He plays along and responds. There was one time where I waited a little longer to walk and talk with him out of class. From that experience, he seemed really nervous and shy around me, totally unlike his outgoing, funny self in class. He hardly even made eye contact with me. I was really confused. Well, anyway, he doesn’t really take any other initiative with me, so I’m starting to think he’s not interested. Class is going to be over in 3 weeks. What should I do next, love experts of Reddit?
