My family hates my boyfriend. How do I break up with him?

We’ve been dating for a month and I met his family yesterday. They all love me and welcomed me as part of the family. I love my boyfriend and I get along with his family. However, my parents don’t approve of him because of his race and they don’t believe he made a wise decision in his career path; they don’t think he’s smart enough or will make enough in his career.

My parents haven’t gotten to know him yet but are judgmental and reject him already. My mom has only talked to him for like 10 seconds when he picked me up at the door yesterday.

Also, his family is in town right now for his graduation later this week. And I’m leaving the country for a family emergency the day after. I love him but I can’t stay with him against my parents’ wishes. How do I break up with him?

I’ve always been extremely private and introverted. My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse.
