Dating someone getting over their ex?

I finally told my best friend I like her and she likes me back! We hang out everyday and can't be away from eachother and I can confidently say we both like each other equally... and I really love her. But last year she had this thing with another girl (let's call her X) they talked a lot but I know she has never opened up to anyone as much as she has to me. The thing is X ended up ghosting her so now whenever she sees her at school she sorta just shuts down and gets sad or distant. I can't help but keep thinking what ifs like what if X didn't ghost her and what if she would rather be with X than me right now like would she switch us? I never told the one I like about this concern because I feel like it's unfair to bring up? The thing is I'm not jealous, I just get really really anxious thinking about them in the past or when I see X (I have a class with her). She hinted about feeling a lot better about the ghosting now because I make her feel so happy but I don't know... is it possible to love someone else while still hurting over a past love?

I’ve always been extremely private and introverted. My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse. She had just gotten out of an engagement with a verbally and physically abusive man who had a cocaine problem. We have been together about 8 months now.
