Has anyone's in-laws caused the marriage to fall apart - if so, what happened?

My sister has been married for a few years. Her husbands parents are A LOT TO HANDLE! They come by all the time unannounced to play with their grandkids. They're treating their grandchildren like their own kids. For example: My sister is Jewish and her husband is Christian. They've agreed to raise their kids teaching them about both religions and not really choosing one over the other. The husbands parents will come over for "ice cream" on Sundays and then take the kids to their church without my sister knowing. They're trying to get the kids to become Christian - if that makes sense. It's driving my sister crazy and her husband isn't doing anything to stop it. It's way more than just the religion thing. My sister will discipline her kids in front of the in-laws for various things like throwing things, hitting each other. The in-laws will tell the kids not to listen to her as she is "new at this" and will do things their own way. My sister is sure this will destroy their marriage. She can't take much more of this. Her husband really doesn't think there is a problem. Has this happened to anyone else? Did it cause your marriage to fall apart? Were you able to fix it?
