Bizarre experience

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while but decided to finally post after a recent experience.

I've been chatting with a guy from OLD for about a week, no face to face meet up has happened. We were texting the other day and out of no where I received a message from his wife responding to the last message I had sent. A little time passes and then he sends another message and apologizes that it's his ex who just recently signed the divorce papers. Clearly things are messy between them.

At some point she has his phone again and messages me to explain the situation. Perhaps it's some delirious sick humor of mine in the moment, but I continued the conversation with her talking about the muck of what's going on. She ends up apologizing for the biting message she sent previously, sharing her feelings, saying I'm easy to talk to, and then sort of goes to bat for him? Meaning, she clarifies that he is actually single as they've signed the annulment papers, he wasn't lying about being single, and shares that he's a really good guy.

I'm not really posting to look for advice about the situation, just share. What I really am curious about is - how did situations like these turn out to be what is happening in real life? It all felt so hilariously amusing in the moment and I was just rolling with it all to see what would unfold. Maybe not the right course of action but I couldn't help my curiosity.

I am sitting here wondering how often people are considerate of the impact their situation has on people they're engaging with through a dating context. And, I can't help but be amused that a situation like this actually happened to me.

Anyways, thanks for reading!
