Tips a recently-ish single 25M with not much to show for it (pictures, friends) trying to get into online dating?

Maybe because it's a boring Saturday night, but I might write a lot. Bear with me.

About me

I'm a 25 year old in NYC who is recently single from a 3+ year relationship. The break up was mutual - our long term life goals did not match up and we had trouble living together. I met her in person during college via some then-friends.

During those three years (first three years after college) I did not make any close friends and the ones I've had moved away. Mostly my fault, of course. Moreover, my ex an I aren't the kind of people that like to take pictures so I also don't have any pictures. She is a busy law student so I got too comfortable just hanging around her while she studied (I work just 9-5).

Anyway, fast forward to now. I want to start dating again, but I've no idea how online dating for someone in my position works.

I'm not going to claim I am some hidden gem. I'm shorter than average (5 7), not ugly but I don't turn any heads, and skinny (I do lots of cardio so I am fit in at least some way though). I love to read and watch films which aren't attractive hobbies for online dating because I do them inside at home. My only "outside" hobbies are shopping/clothes/menswear, museums and art, and walking around a lot, all of which I do alone.

But, people like me if they meet me. At work I am fairly "popular" for whatever that's worth. I'm very funny, can talk about almost anything, and am a good listener. I'm sweet and very caring as well. My career is going well income and position wise, even for NYC.

What I am asking for

So, there's obviously stuff I need to work on, and I want to. But is there anything I can do now to get started with? Like I said, I am generally likable and very skilled at conversation. My problem is getting to first date from an online dating perspective because I feel like my pictures would be super boring, for example. For single guys with little to no friends out there - what pictures do you use? And how do you approach dating? What apps do you recommend?

TLDR Recently-ish single from an LTR with good job + finances, people generally like me, but no friends or pictures.
