Advice on how to proceed

I'm a 23 y/o guy and I've been hanging out with a 22 y/o girl pretty frequently. I met her at school so we kinda just became friends through study groups, so that dynamic already existed prior to me having other intentions with her. I hang out with her sometimes one on one but it's usually pretty basic stuff like going to the gym or something. We've gone to parties together but as part of a larger group, not specifically with her. Anyway I've been having a lot of fun hanging out with her and now have a interest in her romantically, but I'm not sure how to proceed. She definitely finds me attractive and enjoys my presence, but it seems that she wants to remain just friends. I'm not really sure if I should ask her to more of a date-type activity or if I should just let things flow and see how they end up.

Side note: I've been rather socially awkward for most of my life and only recently resolved this so I basically have no idea what I'm doing due to a lack of experience lol.

I’ve always been extremely private and introverted. My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse. She had just gotten out of an engagement with a verbally and physically abusive man who had a cocaine problem. We have been together about 8 months now. We hit it off and spent a lot of time together but she began to push our relationship as if there were a time clock for milestones.
