me(24f) and my ex (24m) have been in a relationship for 3 years. We both need space to work on ourselves and he needs space for his mental health. I still want to be with him at the end of the day. Advice on what to do?

Hi! I just got out of a 3 year relationship because we both need to work on ourselves separately. We have a kid together and we’ve spent the last few months arguing. It’s not healthy for my daughter(1) or me(24F). He(24) was consistently going out at night and not calling but showing up at 3am. Saying things like he doesn’t want being a father to be his whole identity. I personally think he's depressed. We both have said very mean things to each other and have been super inconsiderate of the others feelings. Both of us are very remorseful that it’s gotten to this point and I do still want to be with him but just not right now. I’m hoping that w/space we’ll be able to build a healthier and loving relationship in the future but right now we need a break from each other.. I’m curious if anyone has ever been in this situation and how it turned out. Any advice on what we can do while we aren't together that will help us build a better relationship.
