Do I have a still shot with her or not?

Kinda a long story, and I know these probably get thrown in here a ton, so sorry if you've seen enough of these.

I met this girl on a dating app and ended up getting her Snapchat. We started texting on Snapchat and shortly after I asked her on a date (doing something that she said she liked). I got a "maybe, but I want to get to know you better first" kinda text. Okay, good enough for me, I'll keep texting a see where it goes.

Fast forward a couple more days of texting and I asked her again (I'll admit, probably a bit too soon, but I was eager). This time she straight up told me that "it's not me" (my fault), just that meeting up with guys she meets online kinda freaks her out a little bit (understandable), that anyone could be a killer (but "not me"). She said she wants to get to know me better still. I say ok, thinking that's not bad either. Additionally, to be cautious I've kind of stopped the compliments for now (simple stuff like "your smile/hair is cute" - maybe like 2/3 compliments in total).

Well, the time since then (yesterday and today) has been probably the best I've had texting her. It feels like she's been more open than before, and she even mentioned that she's always been shy. Ok, I'm thinking, it's all making more sense now. I'm thinking she's clearly not just trying to hook up (I'm not either), plus the whole scenario about meeting up and being shy. But that's at least what I keep telling myself.

So, anyway, what do you think? What should my next steps be? Do I actually have a chance with her?

edit: meant to say "do I still have a shot with her"
