Why would he be physically affectionate but act uninterested?

tl;dr: He initiates holding hands, kissing, and intimate touches, but does not put the effort into the relationship. Why?

I have been seeing this guy over the last three months, and we only went for 6 dates as we traveled during this period to different countries for 3 weeks. Anyhow, on the second date, he initiated holding hands, and we almost kissed. Right after this date, we both traveled. He didn't text me, so I did. I noticed he was flaky and taking 4 hours to reply although he used to take 20 mins max before. I asked him why he did that, and he said he lost a bit of interest bc I am leaving the city in a month, and he won't like a long distance. After we returned from our trips, he texted and we did hang out that night. He was also getting physically close to me. However, he does not make time for me or text me as much as I do. I am confused why would someone trying to be that affectionate and show no interest? we didn't even have sex, and we are demisexuals. I got attached to him because of the way he touches me, but I feel hurt for not being able to know where I stand?

My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse.
