clueless dude wishes to find clue

Hi. I'm an awkward software engineer and I am desperately seeking advice on how to talk to a girl.

Here's the situation. I started coworking at this new place in June, shortly after I noticed there is a girl there. There was this weird situation where I came in one day and I was looking around the room and noticed that she was looking at me. Thinking nothing of it I looked back and smiled. We ended up just kinda looking at each other for like 3 seconds. After this she was walking by my desk. When I noticed that she was walking by I looked in her direction, not really sure why...but she looked back at me, noticed I was also looking at her and quickly looked away. Sadface.jfp. Since then anytime I glance in her direction and she realizes my head is faced her way she looks in the other direction. Sometimes just briefly.

Anyway, before I start fantasizing about our honeymoon in Fuji together I'll have to figure out what the heck is going on. After this awkwardness I'm not sure how I can start a conversation with her. Do I attempt to make it happen or just pretend like nothing happened and...well wait around.

I’ve always been extremely private and introverted. My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse. She had just gotten out of an engagement with a verbally and physically abusive man who had a cocaine problem. We have been together about 8 months now.
