What are peoples experiences with blind dates?

I'm losing a bit of hope when it comes to dating and have always wanted to try blind dates. I am completely clueless about them besides the basic concept and so I thought it would be nice to ask about others experiences with the concept and advice on how to go about it/what to expect.
