Flirting with girl got awkward

So i'm studying abroad for some months and have been for a month. Two girls also started studying here and will be here for some weeks only. I talked to them a bit and we went to a party together with some other students. At the party i flirted with one of the girls and we kissed on the way home. I went with the girls to their house (they live together) and we drank a bit more and talked. The second girl went to bed and me and the other girl continued flirting and kissing. Some clothes came off but we didn't have sex. She told me she very recently had a breakup and that her ex was currently testing himself, so she wanted to wait for confirmation before having sex. This wasn't a big deal for me and i said i understood completely. I went home a bit later.

Tonight i was with the girls and some other students at their house. After the others left, the second girl again went to bed while me and the girl talked. She told me she "wasn't sleepy at all" which to me seemed like she wouldn't mind me staying a bit. Still, there was just something awkward about the whole thing. I first said i was leaving then i stayed a bit and we talked. I sat down next to her and eventually put my arm around her. We then kissed a bit, but she still seemed a bit "stiff" or "awkward". She then asked me if she could ask me a question. The convo went something like this:

Her: Why?

Me: what?

Her: why did you start flirting with me at that party? Why did you come home with us after?

Me: uuh.. I guess because i find you attractive?

Her: i thought you were interested in my friend originally..

(her friend has a boyfriend for 2 years)

Me: why do you think that? She has a boyfriend right?

Her: yeah but you didn't know that at first.

Me: uh, okay, i don't know where this comes from, did she say anything?

Her: no..

It's true i was kind of more into her friend at first, as we had some good chemistry, but i never told anyone that and i never made any attempts to flirt with her that i know of (we were all kinda drunk at the afterparty). When i learned she had a bf i then also didn't plan to flirt with her either. After this exchange things just felt awkward. She said sorry for "catching me off guard" and that it was silly to put me on the spot like that. She then said she was sleepy and i then told her i should be leaving. She followed me out but we didn't kiss or hug, we just said goodbye. Whole thing just felt awkward.

I don't really understand what happened here and i was wondering if anyone got a clue. I don't remember me being flirty towards her friend or anything, so i'm not sure why she brought that up? Did her friend say anything? Also, i could never get a sense on whether she wanted me to stay or leave. It was just weird. I sent her a snapchat when i got home saying "sorry about that awkward ending" and she said "i was just sleepy, it wasnt awkward". Doesn't make sense to me..?
