Question about kegels

Okay, so there are a lot of posts about kegels on here so I apologize in advance for another one. Basically, i get the general concept. Squeeze pelvic floor muscles and they will strengthen over time. Great! But whenever I try, I then have to pee much more often than normal. I already feel like I have to pee a lot, but it almost doubles when i do kegels on a regular basis. I'm female btw and the motion im doing to practice kegels is the same motion of holding your pee in. Is this normal or am I just doing it wrong? Does anyone have any tips?
