Issues with a guy that's acted very interested and been talking for months, but suddenly stopped. Any insight to what's going on?

I'm asking for advice on what might be going on in this situation because, quite frankly, I haven't experienced this type of behavior from a guy before. So for some background, I'm in college and this guy was in one of my classes last semester. We used to study together and things like that. We only went to one outside social event together, but it was a party so we didn't get to talk too much. Anyways, I didn't talk to him for most of the summer then towards the end of the summer he reached out to me. We had a small-talk conversation via Snapchat (which is what I primarily use) and then I stopped replying at some point because it wasn't really going anywhere. Anyways, I Snap'd him once school started because he seems nice enough that I might want to be friends with him, or maybe more. He invited me to 3 parties, but I ended up not attending because I'd rather get to know him one-on-one. So on Tuesday, we got a bite to eat together and talked for like an hour and a half. I wasn't sure if he saw it as a friends thing, or if he thought it was a date (he paid for me which is what made me second guess). Anyways, at the end he said if I wanted to do something again, to let him know. I saw this as putting the ball in my court, which I was kinda confused about because in my experience guys usually don't do that. We snap chatted for a couple days after that as per usual, and then all of a sudden he waited like an entire day to open my snapchat then didn't reply. I think this was on Thursday. Today, I sent him another snap, this time to make plans, and he hasn't opened it in hours, which again is weird for him. I don't know what to do because I guess the worst case scenario is he's decided suddenly he doesn't like me (after 6 months of knowing/talking to me), but it just feels odd to me since he seemed very enthusiastic about meeting up again, and he was still talking to me right after our outing. I'd appreciate any advice/insight, and sorry if this is long!
