I had sex for the first time but couldn't finish

I'm a 22 yo male. I'm a shy introvert and only just found my first girlfriend a few months ago. We had sex for the first time a little while ago. During this I noticed that I struggled to reach a point where I felt like I would orgasm, in fact my girlfriend finished, so I stopped anyway, and we stupidly had no protection and I wasn't going to risk finishing myself.

I'm a little concerned about my inability to begin feeling any pleasure myself. Basically I discovered masturbation when I was younger and have done that ever since, so I feel that is to blame, like my body is used to a certain way of reaching an orgasm, so now it finds it hard to during sex. Is this normal? And is there a way to fix it? Would I be best stopping masturbating entirely, to reset my body's expectations? Or perhaps doing it in a way more emulative of sex to get my body used to that instead?

Also is it normal that as a guy I don't really feel much pleasure until soon before I climax? Myself and my girlfriend aren't sure.

My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.
