/u/peakwoof on I hear about people who have gone through so much because they weren't aware of asexuality, and it makes me feel so very grateful that I encountered this term so early and that I have so many people in this community to look up to

I was one of those asexual teens who thought they were broken and forced themselves into a sexual situation to "figure things" out. It went as well as you could imagine. It was so obvious at the time. If someone told me about asexuality I probably would have avoided a lot of suffering. I think it is important to make teens aware of every possible sexual identity so they can more easily figure out things for themselves instead of spending years in agony. Thinking they're broken or abnormal and living through life not knowing if anyone else is like them.
