I (23F) am reluctant to try butt stuff with bf (32M)

My boyfriend has been asking for anal sex (he has had it before but I haven’t) and I have always declined. I never told him the real reason why but basically just said it would be painful. He has recently stopped bringing it up since thinks my answer will always be no. I have a butt plug but have only used it a handful of times and that hurt at first but began to feel good (with lube). I’ve never let him plug my ass. I genuinely want to try anal and I want to give him what he wants but my reluctance is because I have a fear of getting poop on his dick or him seeing it possibly on the plug (even with a condom, seeing shit in general would be gross) or a smell. I obviously shower regularly but I still have a fear that something is lingering in my rectum that would literally embarrass me from wanting to have sex ever again. Not sure where to go from here.

My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse.
