Why is fingering so unpleasant?

I’m not sure if this is the right sub for this, but I really don’t know where else to go for advice.

I (F) masturbate regularly and I’ve recently been incorporating fingering into that. I’ve only been using one finger as it hurts quite a bit to use two, but even with just one finger it’s still mildly painful and uncomfortable. I don’t understand how this is enjoyable, but maybe I’m just doing it wrong?

My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.
