How do I (F19) tell a guy (M24) that buying me things wont make me like him more?

I met this dude about 3 days ago, he just got out of a 4 year relationship super recently... I think around 7 days ago? We hung out twice and it was a good time, we really clicked, but every time we hang out he wants to buy expensive things for me even though I politely tell him not to. I told him how it makes me uncomfortable and that even though its a nice gesture, im very independant and will always insist on paying for myself and only myself (with some exceptions). He recently bought me a 'Christmas present,' a $90 set of skateboard wheels for my cruzer without telling me and I dont know how to respond. Theyre nice, and its a very kind thing for him to do, but this guy has come on super strong. He still talks to his ex, even while im around, he even sat on the phone with her while he was at my house. Theres a lot of red flags. I told him that I would like the weekend to myself as i was going to see my parents who live 4 hours away. I'm hesitant to talk to him again even though i like him.

TLDR: A guy ive known for 3 days bought me an expensive set of skateboard wheels without asking and I cant get him to respect my feelings about people buying me things. I feel like he has been coming on way too strong, and I dont know how to tell him that money isnt going to make me like him.
