Why play hard to get

Hi Reddit I (24F) have always wondered about the game of "playing hard to get" that some women adopt. Do guys really ever find this attractive? Is the chase really exciting? In my personal experience it's just so much effort and I find myself being more forward (now that I'm older) - if I like you, I will show it. Just curious how many of you feel the same way?
