What’s “blue balls”?

I’m 19F and still a virgin, so here’s the thing, I don’t know a lot about sex. My bf and I have only ever made out and give each other oral once or twice (he’s 23 and not a virgin but says is waiting for me). So, we were making out in his dorm and I could feel he was getting hard so I started touching his thing through his clothes. He started taking my clothes off and honestly I wasn’t 100% sure about it but also wasn’t 100% unsure about wanting to have sex.

But the thing is we ended up making out in our underwear when i got a call from my best friend (she was actually sick that night I told her I was going to my bf dorm but if anything happened she could always call me. When she spoke to me she said she had around 98 something temp and couldn’t move). And I immediately got up from the bed and got dressed. My bf wasn’t mad or anything he just said something about his dick hurting after I gave him blue balls. He said “this probably will hurt later, don’t worry I’ll take care of it” Idk what it is. Is it actually dangerous? Like I don’t want him to be in pain or anything

My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.
