I (32 F) just got broken up with before even starting a relationship with 41 M lol

So there was this guy who I had a first date with about a week and a half ago. The first date started as a coffee date and ended with us going to a restaurant to finish the date. Our date ended because the restaurant was closing. So he walked me back to my car. I offered to drive him back to his place since he lived close and walked. After the first official first date we saw each other almost daily. I was going over his house to watch a series (it became “our thing”). Nothing ever happened besides sitting really close to each other and “holding”. I felt like we had a good connection. But, I got a call from him today and he said he really liked me “like a lot”, “really really liked”, he also said he “really liked spending time with me”, but felt like there was no “chemistry” and that he thought it wasn’t going to work because of that and he thought we should see “other” people. He then proceeded to say he would probably most definitely regret. He then rambled on and on between really liking me and being very attracted to me and really liking spending time with me but no chemistry and again said he knew he’d probably regret it. Then wished me luck and I wished him luck. Then he said something about maybe seeing each other later on (like date again). I then said yeah maybe good luck to you too and we ended the call.

I guess I’m just confused because I feel like what he said kinda contradicts itself all in itself. Or does this make sense? It’s not like we were exclusive and couldn’t continue with what we were having while seeing other people to see if it would work out. He did mention him getting older and maybe his thinking had changed. Can a guy please explain this because I’m legit confused. Women, feel free to chime in as well.
