This girl is really confusing me

This is kind of long one due to the need for context, sorry! So this girl (20f) and I (22m) met in a photography class. I wanted to get to know her (we’ll call her Sadie) more cause I was interested, hence why I’m typing this now. We got an assignment that Sadie started falling behind in, where we had to take a photo each day with a film camera. So I offered to take her to this farm to get photos of the different animals, as a way to get to know her outside of class. We seem to hit it off and at one point Sadie mentions she used to bake, but hasn’t lately since she doesn’t have someone to bake for. As a broke college student I joked that she could always bake stuff for me if she needed a reason to bake, which she laughed at. About a week goes by and we meet up again for another assignment for landscape photos. Sadie had said prior that she wanted to hike one of the local trails but none of her friends were up for it. I said I had done a couple and offered to take her up one to get sunset photos at the top, which Sadie accepted. We have a great time on the hike and come back to her place to drop her off. Before I leave though, she brings me up to her apartment to meet her dog and to give me brownies she had made from scratch. I’m ecstatic that she remembered my joke; they were the best brownies I have ever had.

This is where things start to get kind of confusing for me. During class we often go out and get photos on campus for our assignments, and in the past few classes I’ve noticed Sadie doing little things like trying to stand next to me in groups or noticing little things that I do during class to not be bored, stuff that if you weren’t watching me you wouldn’t notice. However last night(as of writing this) we went out to an open field to photograph the night sky and watch the meteor shower (the orionids are out rn, go check it out). I had planned on trying to kiss her or do something that would make it known that I was interested in dating her, as I had not explicitly said this prior (not one of these times did I call it a date). I had brought hot cocoa, blankets, wore an extra coat just in case she needed it. The night went well, but I couldn’t make a move since I couldn’t get the right moment. She seemed so much more interested in the stars and talking that I didn’t want to push myself onto her in anyway shape or form. I physically couldn’t do it. I decided to ask Sadie why she went on these excursions with me, since most girls would have thought it strange that a guy they’ve known for maybe a couple weeks would invite them to this. She hesitated for a sec, as if she had a reason but didn’t want to say. She said “I always make an effort to hang out with someone if they invite me somewhere”. Eventually we pack up and head back to her apartment, where we sat together and played with her dog. By the time I left, she seemed disappointed.

I told my friend (23f) about this as I’ve been talking about Sadie throughout this. We came to three conclusions, either she’s very naive, is interested but because of issues with her ex is unsure, or she’s not interested and doesn’t want to hurt my feelings. I’m sure there’s others but my gut is telling me it’s one of these three.

What’re your guy’s thoughts? I’ll be asking her out on an actual date in a couple days to finally figure things out, but I would love any advice I can get.
