My new hookup’s wife might be alive?

I (F20) recently started hooking up with this new guy (M26). I thought it was strange that we always met up at hotels and never his place. One day when we were both drinking I asked why and he said that his wife died six months ago from sepsis. The wife’s sister lives with him and it sounds like she is a little crazy so he does not want to bring me there. Later I started to notice he would get calls and texts while we were hanging out from “My Beautiful Wife”, I asked him about it and he said his wife’s sister now has her phone and he doesn’t have the heart to change the contact name. I became more suspicious and googled his wife’s obituary. I could not find anything. He has never posted anything on social media about her death and neither have any of her friends that I found.

My friends think that he is lying. What should I do?

I’ve always been extremely private and introverted. My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse.
