How do you date in this day and age??

Are normal relationships dead? Like should I be ok with hooking up as like fwb n whatever happens happens? Is it foolish to still want n believe in love?? I keep feeling like I was born in the wrong Era. I go on dating sites (which one is even the best??) and get nothing but guys I'm not into or guys just wanting sex. It makes me think that I'll never find that somewhat fairytale love I'm looking for in my pisces head. I feel like any hope of finding love, getting married, and having kids is just gone and I'm destined to be a baby mama. I've only had 2 serious relationships in my 26 years of living. One started on a lie and the other started online and was predominantly long distance. I haven't a clue as to how actual dating works and I'm even more lost now because my friends seem to start out hooking up with someone and catching feelings. It seems to be the "norm" and I really hate that.

So I'm just curious if this is the new way of dating or if its just my environment and how normal dating works?

I’ve always been extremely private and introverted. My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse. She had just gotten out of an engagement with a verbally and physically abusive man who had a cocaine problem. We have been together about 8 months now.
