Guy [23M] I [24F] like says he really likes me but acts distant at the same time. Need advice on how to act.

I don’t want to bother my friends with this so I am resorting to reddit for relationship advice lol… anyway here goes:

I met a guy from a dating app a month ago. We really hit it off. We’ve seen each other 4 times since then. Everytime we have gone on a date it was because I asked except for one time.

We have always taken a while to respond to each other but our texts would be great full of questions and all that jazz. (Honestly I don’t care if someone takes a day to respond as long as what they respond with matches the energy my texts give.)But then after a couple weeks Well he would take an average 24hrs to respond (which is fine) but then the replies would be kind of dry.

I asked him to hangout again and see what would happen, maybe things would end after this? But this last time we went on a date we ended up having a 9 hour long date and it was honestly an amazing time! We finally kissed too. Definitely worth losing sleep over.

During the end of the date he admitted that he was teetering on whether or not he wanted to continue this or not which was why he was being so distant. But that after getting to know me more he knows now that he definitely really likes me and that he definitely wants to keep this going and that he is looking for a relationship.

The next day he was texting me more than usual and stuff and I thought wow he really does seem interested. But then now for the past week he has been doing it again… distancing himself. I asked him to hangout 2 days ago which he said he couldn’t cause of prior commitment which again is totally fine! I asked last minute. but he hasn’t asked me to hangout or anything… I just feel so lost because he said he definitely likes me and wants to try this out but its been almost a week since he’s said that and he hasn’t tried to make any plans to see me again.

For background information on this guy he is very kind, empathetic, smart, and basically like a “goody two shoes” kind of guy. He’s a middle school teacher that clearly really cares for his students. He’s not some player or anything, he’s actually not sexually experienced at all really because he used to be a Christian his whole life but recently for the past year he’s not anymore.

I just dont understand if I’m overthinking this or not. and I don’t know how to react or what to do because I dont want to scare him away. I really like this guy. I’m all for taking things slow (I know its only been a month) but I’m not really getting reassurance from him I feel like.
