How to choose cologne

Will appreciate an advice from community.

M35, almost never in my life used cologne. I guess I can do better on dating scene if I would start using one. How do I choose? I literally don’t know how to start as I am very visual, not smell-oriented person.

I obviously shower often, and always shower right before the date. I was told I have very low amount of sweat (women who I was in LTR with told they were surprised I never almost smell sweat). My style is traditional (think Rodd&Gunn clothes) or sneakers/t-shirt (think Lacoste). Always pants, never shorts. I live in SoCal which is warm climate and prefer breakfast/brunch first dates. Body type is on muscular side.

My (27f) gf (27f) is getting tired of me not sharing intimate/ personal info about me

I’ve always been extremely private and introverted. My (23M) girlfriend (25F) relationship is confusing to me. I might be the problem, or maybe we are just incompatible.

I met my girlfriend after a few serious breakups that led me to change both intentionally and unintentionally over a few years. For better and for worse.
