Talking to women

Do women think all guys just want to get to know them for sex? I mean it's nice and all but I have this feeling every time I try to make conversation. It's very awkward and difficult to move passed this self imposing obstacle. I think this is one reason I've stayed with my toxic ex for so long. I don't like feeling like I stand out if that makes any sense.

I think this line of thinking has caused alot of missed opportunities. I've tried keeping conversations going, thinking of things to say or do but I feel like I'm just grasping at straws here with little success. Most conversations always seem to end up with hi how are you? Good and you? That's about it, not very conducive in getting to know people. Especially women.

What do yall think? Any advice would help. I wanted to get women's perspectives on this issue.
