/u/idiotsandwiche on I don’t understand some people. Why is it controversial to say that in general asexuals are less likely to want sex?

I think it has something to do with erasure a lot of aces experience when they say they have or want sex. Because usually people already associate asexual = no sex. Aces who have sex experience having their own identity erased or even dismissed due to this misunderstanding and even though more aces possibly don't want sex, it's not good to support this stereotype. Because this stereotype can be harmful for others. I mean generalizing is never great honestly and especially the ace spectrum is extremely diverse when it comes to experience, attraction and sexual interests.

On a personal note: I consider myself sex-indifferent. I don't really know if I ever want to have sex but due to the stereotype of "asexual=no sex drive" it took me a really long time to actually identity with the ace community.
