/u/Acetamnophen on Pride?

Pride comes from standing against discrimination, misunderstanding, disgust, and invalidation, which applies to any minority group. It's because you're comfortable and happy with who you are, and you live in a world where who you are is seen as broken, mentally ill, in need of treatment or fixing, or just lesser.

You can see the same dynamic at play even for things that don't involve gender of sexuality. If you're not the majority, most people either hide (go in the closet) or they double down on it because they like themselves despite their differences.

Asexuality is about lack of sexual attraction, not whether or not you have sex or date. So aces have unique experiences and a different view on the world than most people. For instance, calling someone "sexy" means "I want to have sex with that person" for most people, but asexuals frequently believe that that word only refers to an aesthetic, like "goth", and don't realize the common meaning unless told. Or, aces often believe that crushes are consciously chosen. Those experiences can create a sense of difference between an ace and their peers, thus making aces a unique minority group, thus creating pride.
